Biografie
Rachel Knevel, M.D. PhD, is an associate professor and rheumatologist leading the Data Science Group at Leiden University Medical Centre’s Rheumatology Department, serves as a visiting professor at Newcastle University and is guest research at the University for Technology in Delft. After completing her genetics PhD at LUMC, she conducted postdoctoral research in bioinformatics at Harvard Medical School. Her current research focuses on transforming care pathways for patients with rheumatic conditions through two key approaches:
developing clinical decision support tools for patients and healthcare providers
advancing the understanding of rheumatic autoimmune diseases
Her group develops and employs both supervised machine learning and unsupervised pattern recognition techniques, analyzing large-scale datasets that integrate electronic health records, patient-reported outcomes, genetic profiles, and serological markers.
